Hyatt has opened its first full-service hotel in Puerto Rico. The Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve is on the island’s northeastern shoreline in Rio Grande. The gated resort hotel is set on 72 acres and is near the El Yunque National Forest.
It is around 40 minutes’ drive from San Juan Airport. The 579-room property, the former Gran Melia Hotel, was acquired in 2019 by Monarch Alternative Capital in partnership with Royal Palm Companies and an affiliate of Aimbridge Hospitality.
It was relaunched as the Resort at Coco Beach, a Hyatt affiliate, last August, and it recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation project and is the first entity of Royal Palm’s development plans for the 946-acre peninsula, which will be renamed Grand Reserve.
Hyatt currently has four select-service hotels in Puerto Rico: Hyatt House San Juan, Hyatt Place Manati, Hyatt Place San Juan Bayamon and Hyatt Place San Juan City Center.
