ASITA agents will not book Garuda flights under the boycott

The Association of Indonesian Tour & Travel Agents (ASITA) has started boycotting Garuda Indonesia, following the national carrier’s decision to cut commissions.

ASITA, which has around 6,300 members across Indonesia, had previously revealed that Garuda had informed it of its intention to reduce agent commissions from 7% to 5% for international bookings and from 5% to 3% for domestic flights.

As a result, it has now issued a directive to its members to boycott the national carrier.

“ASITA Indonesia has decided that all ASITA members are prohibited from participating in any activities involving Garuda Indonesia,” a letter signed by ASITA chairman Asnawi Bahar stated, as reported by the Jakarta Post.

The decision to cut commissions is another blow for Indonesian agents, which are already struggling to complete with OTAs.
