据金边时报报道，老挝政府正在计划向国际旅客们开放新的旅游目的地。
老挝国家旅游局部长Phonemaly Inthaphom表示，政府同意进行一项开发计划，来扩张旅游景点的范围。
Phonemaly女士表示，“每一个省都需要开发20个旅游景点，同时政府部门自己需要有23个旅游景点。”
目前，老挝有超过1，900个旅游景点，包含自然、历史、文化等各个旅行项目。Phonemaly女士也承认许多景点还未被很好的开发出来。
“一些未被开发的景点甚至没有通往的道路可以使用，”她补充道，同时筹资也是一件难事。
不过政府正在鼓励私人投资来拉动旅游业的开发。旅游业对老挝是一个重要的经济支柱，去年，该国共创造了7.24亿美元的旅游业营收，虽然与2015年相比有小幅下滑。
老挝于2016年总共迎来了410万人次旅客。
