The Lufthansa Group has developed an exceptionally environmentally friendly offer package for customers attending this year’s UN World Climate Conference COP28 in Dubai: They can take advantage of a special airfare with Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, and Brussels Airlines that includes 100 percent offsetting of flight-related CO2 emissions via Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium.
Additional benefits include free rebooking and a bike rental certificate valid for one week of bicycle rental in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Business Class passengers can use an e-limousine from the airport to their hotel. The special deal is available in all booking classes and may be booked until 10 December.
The Lufthansa Group has set ambitious climate protection targets, aiming for a CO2-neutral balance by 2050. By 2030, the Lufthansa Group aims to reduce and compensate for half of its nett CO2 emissions compared to 2019.
The independent Science Based Targets project (SBTi) confirmed the 2030 reduction target in August 2022. The Lufthansa Group was the first airline group in Europe to set a science-based CO2 reduction target in line with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
For effective climate protection, the Lufthansa Group is working on expedited fleet modernisation, the use of SAF, continual flight optimisation, and services for private passengers and business clients to make the flight or cargo operation more sustainable.
Furthermore, the Lufthansa Group has actively supported worldwide climate and weather research for many years.
Individual flights are not refuelled with pure SAF. As a “drop-in” fuel, SAF is compatible with fossil fuels and may be mixed with them without any problem. SAF is mixed with fossil fuel before being transported to the airport and fed into the airport infrastructure. The Lufthansa Group ensures that the SAF required to offset individual CO2 emissions is fed into Lufthansa operations within six months of purchase.
