Marriott International has celebrated the grand opening of five new hotels in Japan.

The properties, all of which will operate under the Marriott Hotels & Resorts brand, form part of a major management agreement with Japan’s Mori Trust Group. They cover a series of scenic tourist destinations and add a total of 800 rooms to Marriott’s Japanese inventory.

“We are pleased to partner with the Mori Trust Group on expanding our flagship brand, Marriott Hotels, across Japan,” said Craig S. Smith, Marriott’s president & managing director for Asia Pacific. “At Marriott International, we currently have 40 hotels open in Japan and 10 in the signed pipeline. Japan remains one of the top travel destinations in the world and we want to welcome a new generation of globetrotters to discover unique corners of the country.”

The new openings include the 142-room Karuizawa Marriott Hotel, which is located 70 minutes from central Tokyo and offers forest views and hot springs, and the 128-room Izu Marriott Hotel Shuzenji, which is set in the hills of the Izu Peninsula, south of Tokyo.

The 105-room Fuji Marriott Hotel Lake Yamanaka overlooks Mount Fuji and features hot spring baths, while the 274-room Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel overlooks Japan’s largest lake, not far from Kyoto, and features a 166-seat planetarium.

Finally the 182-seat Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel is a coastal resort located south of Osaka, with mountain trails and sandy beaches.

“The resorts are all easily accessible through gateway airports and Japan’s superior rail networks, making them ideal destinations that will even further help to upturn the domestic travel market,” said Miwako Date, president & CEO of Mori Trust.
