Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled the design of its new Project Leonardo-class ships, which can literally be described as “cutting-edge”.

The sleek new prototype, which has been created by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, features an eye-catching forward-facing bow design that appears to slice through the waves.

This is one of a series of design features aimed at making the new ships more efficient, with the aim of optimising fuel consumption and reducing the impact on the environment.

Further details will be announced at a later date.

“The new, breath-taking design will offer our guests a flexible on-board experience with an incredible array of offerings and further integrates inside and outside spaces, so they feel more connected with the sea,” said Christian Böll, NCL’s managing director Europe, Middle East & Africa.

NCL has ordered four Project Leonardo-class ships, each of which will be able to carry approximately 3,300 passengers. All four are scheduled to be delivered by 2022. In addition, the cruise line has options for two further ships to be delivered in 2026 and 2027.
