Campers and beach-goers in Khor Al-Adaid will be greeted by an enhanced experience starting this winter. Qatar has launched Al Enna Project to improve the tourist destination.
Al Enna is an Arabic word that means camping ground. The development project aims to ensure campers and visitors to Khor Al-Adaid can benefit from safe and enjoyable experiences while protecting the wildlife in the area and providing access to more services and amenities.
Just 40 miles from the capital, Khor Al-Adaid is a UNESCO-recognised natural reserve due to its beauty and diversity of its sand dunes. Moreover, it is one of the rare places where the desert meets the sea. Tourists flock in the area during winter.
One of the popular activities in Khor Al-Adaid is riding 4×4 off-road safaris and dune bashing. To ensure the safety and protect the campers’ privacy, the Project will designate a special zone for ATV sports. Covering an area of 300,000 square metres, the zone will feature 28 ATV rental shops and eight ATV tracks.
To protect the indigenous flora and fauna, dune bashing will be prohibited in areas with wildlife. In addition, a wildlife nursery will be introduced to encourage the return of plant and animal populations that have been affected by previous camping seasons.
Sealine Beach will also see major developments over an area that can accommodate up to 15,000 visitors. This includes creating shaded areas, opening cafés and restaurants as well as designating a special area for families and another for children. In addition, fitness machines will be installed as well as equipment provided for water and beach sports such as football and volleyball.
A special entertainment zone will also be made to host cultural activities and events during the weekends. To be in keeping with Qatar’s cultural heritage, the zone’s design will draw inspiration from the surrounding area’s natural features.
Omar Al Jaber, a Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) representative and Al Enna Project’s official spokesperson, said: “The project is the first step in a comprehensive plan to develop the Khor Al-Adaid area and comes as part of QTA’s efforts to enhance Qatar’s visitors end-to-end experience as outlined in the Next Chapter of the National Tourism Sector Strategy 2018-2023.”
