Sarojin’s ultimate veggie experience

Alastair Newport

- October 9, 2017

The Sarojin, is helping its guests discover an authentic Thai experience as it celebrates the country’s traditional Vegetarian and Loy Krathong festivals.

Spanning nine days, the Vegetarian Festival celebrates the Thai Chinese community’s belief that good health and peace of mind can be obtained through a meat-free healthy diet. It is widely believed the festival stems from the story of a travelling Chinese opera group, who fell ill while performing on the island and as a result decided to stick to a strict Vegetarian diet – while praying to the Nine Emperor Gods to cleanse their bodies and minds. To celebrate the miraculous recovery made by the group, a celebration was held to honour and thank the gods.

In celebration of the festival, The Sarojin is offering two dedicated menus, focusing on fine Thai and Western vegetarian cuisine and includes includes green papaya salad, massaman bean curd curry, aromatic green mushroom and vegetable curry and fried sweetcorn cake.

Vegetarian Festival – A Celebration of Good Health, runs 20 – 28  October 2017
