Shanghai welcomed almost 4.5 million visitors during the seven-day Lunar New Year holiday, city officials have said.
Data release by the Shanghai Tourism Administration, reported by the Shanghai Daily, revealed that the total of 4.45m visitors marked a 10.9% compared to the corresponding period last year.
An increase in festive activities and the dry weather had helped to boost visitor numbers, authorities said.
Among the city’s major tourist attractions, Oriental Pearl TV Tower handled more than 140,000 visitors, up 9% year-on-year, while Shanghai Science & Technology Museum welcomed 148,600 people, rise of 19%. Jinmao Tower, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum and Fengjing Water Town also handled more visitors, but Shanghai Wildlife Park and Jinjiang Amusement Park and Shanghai Natural History Museum reported fewer numbers.
Figures for the new Shanghai Disney Resort were not revealed, but the theme park had to stop issuing tickets on several days because of high attendances.
The city recorded a visitor revenues of CNY4.87 billion (US$711 million) during the seven-day holiday, a rise of 20.4% year-on-year.
