Thailand tourist visa requirements: Everything you need to know

Thailand has reopened its tourism for international travellers with stringent entry requirements as the country is cautious to prevent a second wave of coronavirus outbreak.

Thailand has suspended all visa exemptions when it went into lockdown preventing international travellers from entering the country. In line with its tourism reopening, the Land of Smiles is now offering two types of visas for travellers wanting to gain entry in the country. These are the Tourist Visa, which is valid for 60 days, and the Special Tourist Visa Long that is valid for 90 days.

Travellers can apply for the visa on the official Thai Government website. All countries may apply for Tourist Visa, but only travellers from low-risk countries may apply for the long-stay visa.

The list of low-risk countries are:

  • Australia
  • Bahrain
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Cuba
  • El Salvador
  • Estonia
  • Fiji
  • Finland
  • Hong Kong
  • Ivory Coast
  • Kazakhstan
  • Macao
  • Mongolia
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Qatar
  • Korea
  • Rwanda
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Singapore
  • Taiwan
  • Uruguay
  • Vietnam

The following documents or requirements you need to submit depend are:

  • Bank statement providing proof of income in the last six months equivalent to THB 500,000.
  • Medical insurance that covers COVID-19 with at least USD 100,000 in coverage for the entire duration of your stay.
  • Proof of alternative state quarantine reservation (ASQ)
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR swab test taken within 72 hours prior to flight

All travellers must undergo a second COVID-19 PCR test upon arrival. Moreover, tourists must follow all health and safety protocols such as wearing a mask and physical distancing.
