Vietnamese nationals will soon be allowed to gamble at the country’s casinos.

The Vietnam News Service (VNS) reports that the country’s Prime Minister, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has already signed the decree, which will come into force on 15 March 2017.

The new law is being introduced on a three-year trial basis, but it comes with several conditions; for example, Vietnamese citizens entering the country’s casinos must have proof of regular monthly income of VND10 million (US$450). The age limit for domestic gamblers is 21.

Players must buy tickets to casinos at a price of VND1m (US$45) for 24 hours or VND25m (US$1,126) per month.

Until now, only foreigners have been permitted to gamble in the country’s rising number of casinos. But with a population of almost 90m and rising levels of affluence, the decision to allow Vietnamese citizens to gamble could pay off in a big way.
