Bheem Pul

 

The Chota Char Dham comprises of four Hindu temples in Uttarakhand – Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Bheem Pul is a massive rock arch that serves as the entrance to the sacred site of Vridhachalam. It is located on the way to Yamunotri, the westernmost shrine of the Chota Char Dham.

 

According to legend, when the Pandavas were exiled to the forests, they tried to enter heaven through this route. However, Bhim, the second eldest Pandava brother was stopped by a demoness named Jaya and told that he would only be allowed entry if he could lift up the massive rock that blocked the way. Bhim used all his strength but was unable to move it even an inch. He then prayed to Lord Hanuman for help. The mighty monkey god came to his aid and lifted up the rock with one hand so that Bhim could pass through. The arch formed by the rock is known as Bheem Pul and it stands testimony to the strength of both Bhim and Hanuman.

 

Bheem Pul is also considered to be a sacred place for pilgrimage as it is believed that taking shelter under it will protect one from bad weather and natural calamities.

 

Vasudhara falls

 

Vasudhara Falls is situated in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state. The falls are located at an altitude of 4,000 feet and offer a stunning view of the Himalayan range. The best time to visit Vasudhara Falls is from June to October when the weather is pleasant and the water level is high.
