Maritime christening for Crystal’s new private jet

In true maritime tradition, Crystal Cruises has christened its first aircraft with the breaking of a bottle of champagne over the hull.

Crystal AirCruises, the luxury global tour venture, recently named its new Boeing 777 in a ceremony at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. Presiding over event was Genting Hong Kong’s chairman & CEO, KT Lim, and Crystal’s CEO & president, Edie Rodriguez.

Further following its cruise heritage, Crystal appointed Matthew D. Upchurch, chairman & CEO of Virtuoso, the luxury travel agent network, as the aircraft’s godfather.

“As Crystal continues to innovate new experiences that appeal to a growing audience of luxury travellers around the world, we are proud to support the vision and ambition shared by Edie Rodriguez and all the experts at Crystal, and we celebrate the milestone of Crystal Skye’s introduction to the world,” said KT Lim.

Crystal Syke has a capacity of just 88 passengers, compared to more than 300 usually accommodated on a 777 aircraft. It will also have the highest crew-to-passenger ratio of any twin-aisle aircraft and a non-stop range of 19.5 hours, allowing it to operate on the world’s longest air routes.

Passengers will be transported in “Crystal Exclusive Class” seats, all of which convert to form fully-flat beds. There is also a lounge area with a stand-up bar, two galleys where onboard chefs will prepare in-flight cuisine, and a wine “cellar”.

“It is an incredible honour to be named godfather of Crystal Skye,” said Upchurch. “Virtuoso has enjoyed a strong partnership with Crystal Cruises since the launch of its first ship, and the company has been named a favourite amongst our advisors for the service and experience our clients enjoy with Crystal. As Crystal diversifies its offerings, we look forward to supporting their efforts, just as they continue to support the travel advisor community and Virtuoso.”
