Chulalongkorn University’s Halal Science Centre of Thailand recently launched a new travel app called Halal Route.
Halal Route was created to help foreign Muslim travellers explore the country with ease through reliable, detailed, and easy-to-use information.
Application features include lists of Halal-certified restaurants categorised by cuisine, as well as directions to nearby mosques and accommodations that offer prayer rooms and Halal food.
The app also features a Qibla compass, daily prayer schedules, and an Islamic calendar.
Freely available for both Android and iOS devices, Halal Route can be accessed in Thai, English and Arabic, making it accessible to both local and international users.
Meeting evolving needs
The application was created to help with the growing number of Muslim travellers making their way to Thailand which, with Malaysia and Indonesia, is becoming a key destination for Islamic travel.
As of last year, the global Muslim travel market showed strong recovery with nearly 145 million Muslim travellers. By the end of this year, the figure is expected to hit 168 million.
In Thailand alone, their numbers hit about 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels, per WebinTravel.
