Abercrombie & Kent has announced the construction of a new customised Nile riverboat, its sixth in Egypt, set to launch in late 2025. The boutique boat, which is set to be the best new ship on the Nile, will establish a new golden age of river cruising in Egypt.
A&K has developed the boat to an extraordinarily high standard, based on four decades of Nile cruise experience, with all the amenities and services of a high-end floating hotel. It will have two indoor and outdoor restaurants providing world-class cuisine prepared from locally sourced ingredients, a spa, a gym, elegant gathering areas, a swimming pool, and a sundeck for relaxation between excursions.
The new Nile riverboat’s name will be unveiled in the following months. A&K has always sought to provide travellers with behind-the-scenes access and insider viewpoints in this ancient land since its early days of designing personalised Nile excursions. The new boat will carry this history, which promises to be A&K’s most immersive Nile cruise experience yet. The boutique riverboat intends to feel like a private floating basecamp from which personal and exclusive experiences with the Nile’s living history are launched every day, with a hand-picked crew that includes renowned Egyptologists. The unique boat experience will be much more than a tour; it will be a rare opportunity to enter ancient Egypt’s timeless mysteries and secrets.
The living quarters will be considerably beyond the norm for luxury Egyptian river cruises, with some of the most generously proportioned and well-appointed suites available. Each of its 32 magnificent cabins will have floor-to-ceiling windows and Juliet balconies overlooking the water, marble baths, and 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets. At the same time, two presidential suites will be unprecedented in size and luxury, with their own private decks and outdoor hot tubs.
Private charters will also be possible on the new boat. Abercrombie & Kent currently runs four boutique river boats on the Nile: the Nile Adventurer, Sun Boat III, Sun Boat IV, and Zein Nile Chateau, and this fifth launch strengthens the company’s position as Egypt’s top tourism expert.
“Nobody knows Egypt better than Abercrombie & Kent,” Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group, said. “We pioneered luxury Nile cruises more than four decades ago, and every year, we continue to further elevate this enchanting voyage, with extraordinary experiences at every stage of the journey, accompanied by Egyptologists and storytellers to bring Egypt’s luminous history to life.”
A&K has a long history with the Nile, dating back to 1977 when founder Geoffrey Kent launched the company’s first Nile River trip after meeting David Niven on the set of Death on the Nile. Since then, A&K has continued to innovate and establish new benchmarks for elevated and adventurous experiences in Egypt and throughout the world. The travel company’s network of Egypt experts is unparalleled, from top Egyptologists to well-connected fixers who can arrange everything from private after-hours access inside the Pyramids of Giza to intimate dinners inside ancient temples.
The contract was signed by A&K’s Amr Badr, Managing Director of Arabia and Egypt, and construction is underway at the Massara Shipyard in Egypt. It is expected to be completed in Autumn 2025.
Egypt’s allure endures, and in 2024, there will be a new incentive to visit: the long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum, which will finally display an outstanding collection of Ancient Egyptian treasures.
