ANA chooses jumbo turtle to fly to Hawaii

ANA will paint one of its double-decker Airbus A380s to resemble a giant sea turtle, following a public competition.

The Japanese airline chose the “Flying Honu” design, created by Chihiro Masuoka, as the winning entry in a contest aimed at creating a special livery for the airline’s largest jet. This design beat more than 2,000 other entries in the competition, which was held in October and November 2016.

The winning livery will be introduced on ANA’s first ever A380, which will enter service on the Tokyo-Honolulu route in spring 2019. ANA has ordered just three A380s.

ANA is also supporting activities to protect Hawaii’s endangered green sea turtles, which are known as “honu” in the Hawaiian language.
