The World’s 50 Best Bars announced its highly anticipated list and awards at a live ceremony in London, at the end of last week. The rankings are created by the votes of an academy with over 500 members, from 55 countries.
The list represents the ultimate guide to the top bars and drinking destinations around the globe, with restaurant bars, speakeasies and hotel bars all contributing to the eclectic list. This year’s ranking includes bars from 24 cities in 19 countries.
This year, Asia has doubled its regional representation in the ranking with an impressive 12 places on the World’s 50 Best Bars list, and there are six bars from Singapore, two from Hong Kong, two from Japan, one bar in mainland China and, for the first time, a bar in Taiwan.
Asia has the most new entries with four out of seven on the list, which secures the continent’s spot as the third most popular region for cocktails – after Europe and North America.
Best Bar in Asia, remains firmly in the hands of Singapore’s Manhattan at the Regent Hotel at No.7. Headed by bar manager Philip Bischoff. Manhattan has attracted much attention from global and local cocktail aficionados recently, after taking first prize at Asia’s 50 Best Bars earlier in the year.
Atlas, also in Singapore, entered the list at No.15, also winning Highest New Entry. With other Singaporean bars on the list include Native (No.47), 28 Hong Kong Street (No.25) and Operation Dagger at No. 24.
