Changi unveils dramatic images of new Canopy Park

Singapore’s Changi Airport has unveiled dramatic images of its new Canopy Park, which will form part of the “Jewel” integrated terminal complex.

The artist’s renderings released on Wednesday (7 June 2016) show a series of eye-catching developments that will open to travellers in early 2019.

Covering approximately 14,000m² – equivalent to the size of 11 Olympic-size swimming pools – Canopy Park will feature a series of gardens and walking trails, plus restaurants and other attractions. Designed by companies from the UK, France, Germany, Singapore and the Netherlands, the new attractions will complement Jewel’s indoor garden concept.

Firstly, the “Sky Nets” will allow visitors to walk across netting, 25 metres above the floor. There will also be a bouncing net for children. Secondly, the “Canopy Mazes” comprise two elements – a traditional hedge maze with an elevated watchtower, and a mirrored maze. And finally, the “Discovery Slides” will feature four slides and a 6.5-metre-high platform that overlooks the garden complex.

Canopy Park will also feature a 50-metre-long glass-floored bridge, which will offer views of the 40-metre-high “Rain Vortex” waterfall.  The indoor complex will contain more than 1,400 trees and other greenery, including two gardens – the Topiary Walk and Petal Garden.

“When we conceptualised Canopy Park, we envisaged an area that is not only relaxing because of the lush greenery around, but also one that is filled with timeless activities and interactions for visitors of all ages. It is our vision to pitch Jewel at the highest level and to position it as a world-class attraction for Changi Airport and Singapore,” said Hung Jean, CEO of the Jewel development.

“Canopy Park is designed with this objective in mind, and we want to create a place that will attract visitors from all over the world. Changi Airport also holds a special place in the hearts of Singaporeans, and we believe that the unique offerings at Jewel will offer them added reason to revel in the Changi Airport experience and join us in hosting the world.”

Jewel, which is being developed on the site of the former Terminal 1 car park, is scheduled to open in early 2019. Costing an estimated SG$1.7 billion (US$1.2bn) to develop, it will connect all three of Changi’s terminals.
