JAL upgrades Dreamliner seating

JAL upgrades Dreamliner seating

Japan Airlines (JAL) is improving the seating onboard its fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

The new “JAL Sky Suites”, which have previously been rolled out on the airline’s Boeing 767s, 777s and 787-8s, will now be introduced on the larger version of the Dreamliner.

The first route to feature the upgraded cabins will be Tokyo Narita-Kuala Lumpur in late July 2017, before they are progressively expanded to other international routes.

JAL’s new Sky Suite seating includes upgrades across all three cabin classes – economy, premium economy and business – with the promise of “raising the notches one class above in all cabin services”.

Business class will feature full flat-bed seats, while the premium economy and economy cabins will offer more space. In fact JAL will be the only airline in the world to feature eight-abreast seating in economy class, rather than nine-abreast, with each seat approximately 5cm wider than usual.

In total, the reconfigured 787-9s will feature just 203 seats – fewer than some single-aisle jets. These include 52 seats in business class, 35 in premium economy and 116 in economy.
