Last chance to see: 10 bucket list experiences at risk of being gone

Venice, Italy

Despite efforts to combat climate change, many countries around the world are beginning to see the very real implications of the issue, with little time to remedy. To our dismay this leaves many of the must-see tourist spots at risk, meaning in years to come it is likely that it will no longer be possible to visit and experience these cultural wonders of the world.

At MoneyTransfers.com we investigated which of the most popular bucket list destinations are most at risk from climate change.

The top 10 bucket list experiences at risk:

Experience Risk of Climate Change
Yangtze River Cruise Rising sea levels causing flooding and extinction of wildlife
Visit the Taj Mahal Global warming melting glaciers and swelling Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers
Bar Hop in Miami Beach Sea levels projected to rise up to 31 inches by 2060
Snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef Coral bleaching
Take a Gondola ride in Venice Rising sea levels could see it disappear beneath the waves as early as 2100
Stay in luxury in the Maldives 80% of the archipelago could be uninhabitable by 2050
Walking the Hollywood Walk of Fame Rising Temperatures causing wildfires
Read a newspaper at Dead Sea Drying up at a rate of 30% over the last two decades.
See the giant stone heads on Easter Island Erosion due to rising sea levels which could rise up to six feet by 2100
Count castles on the Rhine  Rising temperatures and falling water levels

Jonathan Merry, CEO of MoneyTransfers.com commented: “While we’re made aware that rising sea levels could make certain destinations like the Maldives disappear, it was shocking to hear that Belgium and Germany both featured in the top 100. Several of the destinations that appeared on the XDI list, such as Beijing, Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City are leading economic hubs as well as tourist destinations and this could have serious implications for both industries.”
