The two airlines will codeshare on 15 routes

Two of Thailand’s biggest airlines have teamed up on a series of services.

National carrier Thai Airways and regional airline Bangkok Airways will jointly sell 10 domestic and five international routes.

Thai Airways will place its TG flight code on Bangkok Airways’ domestic Bangkok-Samui, Bangkok-Chiang Mai, Bangkok-Chiang Rai, Bangkok-Phuket, Bangkok-Krabi, Bangkok-Lampang, Bangkok-Sukhothai, Bangkok-Trat, Chiang Mai-Mae Hong Son and Samui-Phuket routes, as well as international flights linking Bangkok with Danang, Luang Prabang, Siem Reap and the Maldives.

In return, Bangkok Airways will place its PG code on THAI’s Bangkok-Singapore flights, with additional routes under consideration.

“Building codeshare agreements with leading international airlines is to increase its capacity through the route network and sales,” said Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, president of Bangkok Airways. “What is most important is to make travel convenient for passengers travelling inbound from destinations across the world and to connect them to various final destinations operated by the airline.”

Usanee Sangsingkeo, THAI’s acting president, added that the new arrangement would help “strengthen the Thai airline industry, support the Thai economy, increase tourist arrivals into the country and elevate Thailand as the aviation hub of ASEAN”.

The relationship between THAI and Bangkok Airways dates back more than 20 years.
