Marriott brings new lifestyle brand to Japan

Moxy Milan marked the brand’s global debut when it opened in 2014

Marriott International has unveiled plans to bring its new lifestyle brand, Moxy Hotels, to Japan.

The hotel giant has penned agreements for two Moxy properties in the country, which are expected to open in Tokyo and Osaka in late 2017. These openings will follow the launch of the Asia Pacific region’s first Moxy in Bandung, Indonesia, in the third quarter of this year.

“The next generation of travellers craves adventure, and until now affordable hotel options lacked personality,” said Mike Fulkerson, Marriott’s vice president of brand & marketing for Asia Pacific. “We are excited to introduce Asia to the Moxy brand, which offers a vibrant and fun hotel experience at a great price.”

Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho will be located in the historic Kinshicho of the Japanese capital, close to Kinshicho Station. A conversion from a former office building, the hotel will feature 205 rooms. Moxy Osaka Honmachi meanwhile, will offer 155 rooms close to Honmachi Station, one of the most Osaka’s busiest railway stations. This will also be an office conversion project.

Moxy Hotels made its worldwide debut in Milan in 2014, and has since expanded to six other locations in the US, UK and Germany. As well as the new Asian hotels, Marriott has signed deals to bring the Moxy brand to Copenhagen, Oslo, London, New York, San Francisco and Seattle.

Targeted at the millennial market, Moxy hotels feature 24-hour self-service F&B areas, charging points for electronic devices, and free Wi-Fi. All rooms come with keyless entry systems, internet TV and motion-sensor lighting.
