The Balearic capital, Palma is hosting a range of cultural and sporting events this September and October, making it an ideal time for a short break. 

On 23 September Palma celebrates the La Nit d’Art festival, an event marking the beginning of the art season in the city. Around 15,000 visitors will see exhibitions, performances, video-installations and urban installations in a mix of traditional art venues such as cafes, private apartments, studios, balconies and facades of historic buildings.

From 15 October to 12 November, the city will host the Festival Música Mallorca; a festival offering a series of classical music concerts in a number of venues across the city including the Palma Auditorium and the Palma cathedral. Events include the Oficio Solemne featuring the Festgottesdiest on 15 October, the Gran Gala Opera – Viva L’Opera.

The Santander Triathlon Series taking place on 3 September is the first sporting event of the season at the Port of Palma including three course levels; the Supersprint (350m Swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run), the Sprint (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run), the Olimpico (1,500m swim, 40km cycle, 10km run). On 15 October, Palma will welcome back the Mallorca Marathon which offers a 10k, a half marathon and a full length marathon. The race starts by the sea on the Passeig Marítim (seafront promenade), opposite the Palma cathedral. Registration starts from €85 for the full marathon. www.palmademallorcamarathon.com

On 2 September the Fundació Joan Miró will launch a new free meditation practice in collaboration with the centre for yoga and meditation Earth Yoga which will run every Saturday of the month. The meditation practice will take place in the Espai Estrella in the Moneo building – one of the foundation’s exhibitions centres located in the heart of the city.
