A new tented camp will soon open in southwest Cambodia’s Botum Sakor National Park.

Jointly developed by the Minor Group, Yaana Ventures and the Wildlife Alliance, the Cardamom Tented Camp will be designed to preserve an 18,000-hectare concession, protecting it from loggers, poachers and sand mining operations.

The tract of land features mangroves, lowland tropical forests and a triple-tiered canopy, reaching an altitude of 335 metres. It is home to clouded leopards, hog badgers, sun bears, mouse deer and pangolin, and is part of a vital migration corridor for Asian elephants.

“The tented camp sets an example for the local and national economy as a sustainable alternative to illegal logging, poaching and habitat destruction,” said Willem Niemeijer, CEO of Yaana Ventures, the parent company of Khiri Travel. “The combined expertise of the stakeholders makes this a uniquely qualified project.”

Soft opening on 1 September, the Cardamom Tented Camp will feature nine furnished tents, each with an en-suite bathroom and large patio area, plus a riverside restaurant.

Activities will include jungle hikes, river kayaking trips, tree-planting, and helping rangers track wildlife using camera traps. Bookings for the tented camp will open on 25 July.
