Thai arrivals edge higher

China now contributes a quarter of tourists to Thailand

Thailand continued to experienced rising visitor arrivals in the first five months of 2017, albeit at a slower pace than in recent years.

According to data from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), reported by the Bangkok Post, the country welcomed 14.3 million international visitors in January-May 2017, which marks an increase of just 2.7% compared to the same period last year.

Mainland China was Thailand’s largest visitor source market in the five-month period, contributing 3.8m visitors – more than a quarter of the total.

The TAT is now forecasting that Thailand will end 2017 with a total of 34.4m international visitors, which would mark a 5.5% increase compared to 2016. This would mark a slowdown however, compared to the 9% growth experienced in 2016.
