“Tourist Class” seats developed for Dreamliner

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner Tourist Class seating

Airlines operating the Boeing 787 Dreamliner will now be able to equip their aircraft with new “Tourist Class” seats.

Unveiled at the recent Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, the new economy-style seat has been developed by seat manufacturer Lift, and follows last year’s launch of Tourist Class seats for the short-haul Boeing 737.

The seats are slimmer and lighter than other models, and feature seat-back storage, an electronic device “clamp”, tray table, coat hook, and space for seat-back in-flight entertainment.

“Boeing is pleased to expand our collaboration with Lift,” said Beth Anderson, Boeing’s vice president of payloads & systems. “By launching into the twin-aisle market with the 787 Dreamliner Tourist Class seating, we are offering our Dreamliner customers more choice for economy class seats.”

The new seats have been designed specifically for the long-haul aircraft, and have been tested to “ensure maximum comfort over extended periods of time”, according to Lift.

The 787 Tourist Class first seats are expected to be delivered in early 2019, and are likely to be popular with long-haul LCCs.
