Historically, Spain has always been one of the top destinations for UK tourists; this was true before either country was part of the EU, and will remain so should the UK leave the bloc in 2019.

Even with a currency loss of +/- 10%, many Spanish destinations remain good value. Other factors such as off-season sunshine and exceptional connectivity to Spanish destinations remain strong motivating factors in consumer choice. Spain offers a continuously evolving product for a variety of travellers. At national, regional and local levels Spain has professional and effective promotion organisations.

ETOA, the European tourism association and other UK trade associations are ensuring that the needs of the travel and tourism industry remain a priority as Brexit negotiations progress. The outbound industry from the UK is a significant contributor to the UK economy as well as destinations worldwide, so it will remain a UK government priority.

ETOA is heavily engaged in Spain throughout the tourism industry, we strive to be at the forefront of any developments in the country’s travel sector. As well as the impact of Brexit, ETOA is working closely on a policy level with the Alhambra and Generalife at having a fairer distribution of tickets. In the past year ETOA has also organised two seminars; one in Barcelona about the impact of capacity management and over-tourism, and another in Madrid about cultural tourism and its importance for the Spanish market – analysing the past, present and future of the country’s offer.
